POSITION:   Admissions Counselor (temporary position)

APPOINTMENT:   Temporary, Administrative, full-time, 10 months 

STARTING SALARY:   Commensurate with experience

Description:

This position reports to the Senior Associate Director of Admissions and works to execute enrollment strategy to meet the needs of the institution. This professional position is a temporary 10 month position responsible for representing the College of Arts and Sciences academic programs, admission requirements, and financial aid opportunities to prospective students, parents, guidance counselors and educational advisors.   

Core responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

•Communicating effectively about the value of a liberal arts education. 

•Representing the university at high schools/community colleges, college fairs and community based organizations throughout the country.

•Establishing and maintaining relationships with prospective students by guiding them through the admissions process via telephone, email, print and in-person communication throughout the entire admissions cycle up through enrollment.   

•Managing a geographic territory by analyzing data, creating a recruitment plan, establishing relationships, and enrolling students from assigned territories.    

•Conducting interviews and information sessions on campus for prospective students, families, school  group visits and special guests.

•Participating in on and off campus admissions office events throughout the year including fall open houses, Admitted Students Days, counselor programs, yield receptions and summer send offs.  

•Counseling prospective students and parents on academic programs, admission requirements and procedures, and all aspects of financial aid.

•Analyzing and evaluating admissions applications and making admission recommendations.

•Approximately 4-8 weeks of travel each academic year to recruit students. Travel may extend throughout the U.S. and abroad.  

•Other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications:  

•A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

•A valid driver’s license with a good driving record and reliable vehicle is required.  Upon offer of employment, a current DMV printout will be required.  

•Excellent writing, interviewing and public speaking skills.  

•Must have excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a fast paced metric driven environment. 

•Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. 

•Must be available to work evenings, nights and weekends for file evaluation and recruitment travel activities throughout the year. 

•Proficiency in technology and computer systems to include MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and other Microsoft applications including presentation applications.  Ability to work in a paperless admissions process and to learn new systems to include a CRM and institution wide student information systems. 

•Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently and on a team.

•A commitment to helping students and their families through the college admissions process. 

•A creative and innovative thinker that will contribute ideas to enhance our overall recruitment strategy.

•Ability to work with culturally and ethnically diverse populations of prospective students, parents, high school and independent counselors as well as faculty and staff.  

•Bilingual skills recommended.
