DESCRIPTION:   Reporting to the Associate Director of Professional Development, the Assistant Director of Professional Development assists in the design, coordination, and delivery of comprehensive professional development services and related programming for the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, and School of Education. The Assistant Director counsels students, leads workshops and seminars, organizes and conducts events, and supports internship development and employment opportunities for University of Redlands students and alumni. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

•Provides individual and group counseling for students and alumni in professional self-assessment and decision-making, employment and internship research and strategy, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation and practice, graduate school planning, and work transition management.

•Assists in the design, delivery and support of professional development services and related programs for an increasingly diverse population of students and alumni, including regular interaction with students, alumni, faculty, and employers.

•Maintains strong working relationships with employers, alumni, faculty, student leaders, student groups, parents and local community leaders to support internships and employment opportunities for students and alumni.

•Responds to leads within and beyond the University for those interested in providing internship and employment experiences.

•Delivers excellent direct services to ensure student, alumni, and employer satisfaction, as well as enthusiastic collaboration within Professional Development and externally as needed.

•Uses and maintains technology essential to Professional Development, including web presence, social media, internal and external databases, and career management systems such as Handshake. Collects and reports on relevant outcomes data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred; and one (1) year of experience required, three (3) years preferred, providing direct counseling to college students and alumni.  Successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with experience in training and development, and a working knowledge of career-related resources on the Internet. Demonstrated experience with both traditional age students and non-traditional adult students a plus.
