U of R Named ‘Tree Campus USA’

The University of Redlands has been named a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation—for the eighth consecutive year.

“By earning Tree Campus USA recognition, your campus has shown its commitment to protecting and preserving its valuable tree resources and will reap their benefits for generations of students to come,” writes Dan Lambe, president of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Your diligence in improving the environment and quality of life at University of Redlands contributes to a healthier planet for all of us.”

U of R is one of only eleven college campuses in California to be recognized with the Tree Campus USA designation this year.

The University of Redlands achieved this distinction by meeting five core standards for sustainable campus forestry: a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance, and the sponsorship of student service-learning projects.

The Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit conservation and education organization with a mission to inspire people to plant, celebrate and nurture trees. The foundation originally launched the national Tree Campus USA program in 2008 to honor colleges, universities and their leaders for sustaining healthy community forests and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.
