When will I find out who my roommate is?

Students will be notified of hall and roommate information via University of Redlands email beginning in early July. Keep in mind that many things can change between July and the beginning of school, so please be flexible and keep an open mind.

When will I get my Redlands email and network ID's?

University of Redlands email and password information will be sent out with the Welcome letter via first class mail to the home address of the student. Please be sure your address is kept updated. Contact the admissions office if you need to update your address.

Should I plan to stay through the start of school or will I be able to go home before classes begin?

Once you arrive on campus, you should expect to stay through the start of classes. There are a number of academic items happening on the Saturday before classes begin including adjusting your schedule and your First Year Seminar will meet for class.

Should I Attend Redlands Connection Day?

Redlands Connection Day will be July 7th. The Redlands Connection Day schedule will be posted online as soon as possible.

How do we go about setting up a new bank account for students that is both local and convenient?

Does the University provide shuttle service at the start of the academic school year for both New and Returning students from the Ontario airport?

Yes, the University of Redlands offers free transportation services for students from the Ontario International Airport for the start of the academic school year for both New and Returning student arrival days. Upon arrival, collect your luggage and wait at the curb outside the baggage claim area for the marked University of Redlands shuttle van. Pickups run on the top of the hour at 1 hour intervals beginning at 10 am and ending at 10 pm. Please be aware this time frame may fluctuate depending on road and highway conditions. There is no need to pre-register for this service. As a courtesy, please try to limit baggage to no more than two suitcases. If you have any additional questions regarding pickups, please contact Public Safety at 909-748-8888.

When do I receive my room keys?

New students move in on Wednesday, August 29th from 8am-12pm. You’ll check in at the Hunsaker Center and then go to your residence hall to meet the hall staff. They’ll take you to your room, review the room condition, and give you the keys. You will receive two keys, one for your room door and another for the exterior doors of the residence hall. Please report any lost or stolen keys immediately to your Residence Life and Housing staff. If you are a member of an organization arriving early, for example some athletic teams or First Year Journey Trips, you will be provided specific instructions by your coaches and group leaders.

When do I find out my mailbox number?

Your mailbox number and combination will be mailed out in early July. You cannot ship any items to the University until you receive this mailbox number. Once you have it, you are free to ship to yourself.

What meals are provided during orientation?

All your meals are covered during Orientation, that goes for both residential and off-campus students. Your Student photo ID card will be your entrance to all meals.

What should I bring (and NOT) for my room?

We have compiled a list of items students recommend and those they don't. Check it out!

I want to bring my own refrigerator. How big can it be?

You are allowed to have your own refrigerator in your room as long as it is 4 cubic feet or smaller.

Can I switch my room?

In certain circumstances you can switch, but it is not recommended until school has started and you have had the opportunity to learn about your roommate(s) by creating a Roommate Contract and engaging in your community. The Residence Life and Housing staff in your hall will work with you to help you resolve concerns related to the hall and/or help you and your roommate work through issues so that you can remain in your space. If, after a good-faith effort to work things out in your room, you wish to request a change, complete the Room Change Request form on the myRedlands Housing Portal. We will attempt to accommodate your request to move based on spaces available.

Can I request bunk beds?

Yes, once you arrive on campus talk to a Residence Life and Housing staff member. Bunk beds are in limited supply and are most used in triple and quadruple rooms first, but we will place your name on a list and let you know if any become available.

What kind of computer will I need to access the network?

You may purchase either a Windows based PC, an Apple OSX computer, or a Chromebook Computer with ample storage space. All will work equally well on the Redlands Wireless/Wired network. The university also provides wireless network capability. Most laptop computers come with built-in Wi-Fi; therefore, no extra hardware is required to get connected to the Redlands wireless network. By the way, most of our students bring a laptop to campus, with only a few who bring Desktop computers. Since each room in the Residence Hall is also equipped with a wired network connection (some exceptions), you have the option to connect via Ethernet cable. These cables can be purchased in our bookstore. There is also a separate Gaming Wireless network if you decide to bring in a gaming device. You will also have access to a copy of Microsoft Office 365 for your computer, so there is no need to purchase it.

If my computer breaks, can I get it fixed?

The Residential Networking (ResNet) department supports all our campus residence hall students with complimentary software support. If the computer is still under warranty, we prefer that you take it back to the vendor for hardware issues. Otherwise, ResNet would be more than happy to diagnose your problem and repair the software issues. If there are hardware problems, ResNet will advise you as to what is wrong and what needs to be purchased. But the replacement for hardware components is the users' responsibility.

Who will help me configure my computer?

The ResNet department is at your service, Monday – Friday from 8 a.m.– 5 p.m. During New Student Orientation week, and Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. during regular school days. If you have questions prior to arrival, please contact ResNet at (909) 748-8921 or resnet@redlands.edu.

How much will it cost me to have my computer hooked up to the network?

There is no fee for connecting your computer to the university network. However, we require that your computer meet minimum security standards. As such, we will supply you with a copy of Avast business anti-virus software, free of charge. Please do not buy your own anti-virus program; only one anti-virus program is recommended on a computer at any given time. In addition, we require that you update your anti-virus signature files and keep it updated. If you connect to our network via the wireless interface, we require that a security profile be created on your computer to make it compatible with our secure wireless network, ResNet can assist you in creating the profile.

When is Parent Weekend?

Parent Weekend corresponds with Homecoming in October.
