Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

2024 Update:

The University of Redlands Accounting Department will again offer free tax assistance through its collaboration with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, beginning March 4 and continuing every Monday through April 8, 2024.

For this tax season, assistance is available in a remote format or in person. Clients can simply use this form (click here) and submit their tax documents online via the Google form or email. Clients can alternatively come Monday to drop documents off between the hours of 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM.

Clients also have the option of coming in on Monday nights in person to fill out the required form and drop off their documents. Signs will be posted in Duke Hall directing taxpayers to the designated waiting room in Duke 201.

VITA volunteers are trained using IRS material and an electronic tax filing program. Volunteers help prepare a Form 1040 with attached schedules and forms.

Clients should submit:

  • All forms (e.g., W-2 and 1099s)
  • Proof of identification for the taxpayer and, if applicable, spouse
  • Social security card or individual taxpayer ID cards for the taxpayer, spouse, and/or dependents

If available, clients may also want to provide:

  • Proof of account for direct deposit of refund (e.g. voided check)
  • Information on other income
  • Information on all deductions/credits
  • A copy of last year’s tax return
