Dr. Mitchell has been on the faculty of the Accounting Program at University of Redlands since 2004, serving as Director of the Program for the first ten years. She started her career at one of the Big-Four accounting firms, and on the staff of the Enforcement Division and Office of the Chief Accountant at the Securities and Exchange Commission. After she earned her Ph.D. at Columbia, she has taught at several outstanding educational institutions throughout Southern California.
Laurie is particularly interested in the topic of financial literacy, and she has written cases and taught a large number of seminars on the topic since 2004. She has been on the Board of Directors of California Jump$tart, a leading nonprofit in the area. Since 2009, she has been on the Board of Directors of many of the American Funds mutual funds, one of the world's largest families of investment products.
In her spare time, Laurie is trying to improve her golf game and plays a bit of competitive croquet. She and her husband, Chris, live in Pasadena with their two newly-adopted dachshunds.
