DESCRIPTION: The Center for Spatial Studies at the University of Redlands is a team of GIS educators and professionals working to support the University’s mission to excel as a spatially-infused learning community. The Center strives to accomplish this mission by empowering faculty and students to integrate spatial thinking into their academic, personal, and professional lives; fostering cutting-edge spatial research and scholarship; enhancing the academic reputation of the University of Redlands; and helping create a better world through meaningful community service.

Under the direction of the Director of Spatial Technology, the Spatial Applications Developer provides technical leadership and GIS/Spatial/Mapping programming support for instruction and projects. This position works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to analyze requirements, identify software solutions/platforms, and develop custom web and desktop tools and applications to support teaching and research, as well as general University operations projects.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Design and build custom web and desktop applications for research, instruction, operations projects supported by the Center for Spatial Studies
• Support/train students, faculty, and staff in the use, extension, and customization of Center-supported software and tools.
• Collaborate on database design and implementation
• Supervise and support student interns
• Promote the university’s spatial programs through outreach, social media, and events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in any information systems-related field such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related discipline. Experience developing web applications using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS; experience with database systems is required. Highly desired is a working knowledge of and experience with GIS/spatial/mapping concepts and technologies; SQL Server experience; developing custom applications with Esri’s Javascript API; Python; C# and/or VB.NET; server-side scripting (Node, Flask, .NET, etc); & developing and deploying desktop applications and tools. Other desired skills include: mobile application development (iOS/Android); ArcGIS Runtime SDK’s; ArcObjects.
