Welcoming Our New HSI Grant Director

Dear University Community:

I’m delighted to announce that Dr. Marina Serna Pulido ’16 ’23 joined our University on May 6 as the inaugural Proyecto Dirección Title V HSI Grant Director. Known for her dedication to students, Marina’s passion lies in fostering connections across the entire University community to bridge services and close equity gaps.

In her new role, Marina will spearhead the implementation of a model of Latinx student engagement, focusing on building institutional structures that contribute to the success of our Latinx student community. She will report directly to the Provost, Vice President for Student Affairs, and HSI Advisory team.

Marina joins the University from San Bernardino Valley College, where she most recently served as the student services coordinator for the Valley-Bound Commitment program. In this role, she managed student recruitment, selection, and orientation of all aspects of the program. She also provided guidance on program requirements, course selection, and academic resources available.

Before that, Marina served as a student services technician and worked closely with numerous students to provide personalized support services, guiding them through the college system and ensuring their success.

Marina is a proud double alumna with an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and an M.A. in Higher Education from the University of Redlands. She received her B.A. in Mass Communications from Cal State University San Bernardino and an A.A. from Crafton Hills College.

Please join me in extending a warm Bulldog welcome to Marina as she embarks on her new role. Thank you to everyone who supported this search and for your ongoing contributions to our University community.

Sincerely,

Krista L. Newkirk
President
