Military and Veteran Education Benefits

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has designated the University of Redlands as one of the qualified institutions where veterans or their eligible dependents may attend and receive benefits under the following U.S. Codes:

  • Chapter 30, Montgomery GI Bill® (MGIB)—Active Duty
  • Chapter 31, Veterans and Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Act (VR&E) [PublicLaws 894 and 97-815]
  • Chapter 32, Veterans Educational Assistance Program

  • Chapter 1607, Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)

The Yellow Ribbon Program

Only a handful of non-profit California colleges and universities offer Yellow Ribbon Program benefits, and the University of Redlands is one participating institution. For veterans, this program helps decrease higher education-related costs while increasing the number and variety of opportunities available to pursue a degree. The program is open to U.S. military veterans with three years of active duty that began after 9/11.

The Yellow Ribbon Program features dollar-for-dollar matching between universities and the federal government in order to give veterans more education options, including private liberal arts colleges.

For example, as an official Yellow Ribbon Program Partner designated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the University of Redlands awards qualifying student veterans up to $5,000 per year ($10,000 per year with VA match) to help offset tuition expenses or the cost of books and other educational supplies that meet the Title 38 definition of a reportable fee. This structure makes the Yellow Ribbon Program a golden opportunity for veterans.

  • Active-Duty Military Tuition Discount

The University of Redlands’ Graduate programs (School of Business & Society, School of Education, and College of Arts and Sciences) honor our active-duty military members and spouses with a $250 per-unit discounted tuition rate. This discount is in line with the military's per-unit reimbursement amount. Contact your enrollment counselor for more details.

Active-Duty Academic Residency

For active-duty service members, the University of Redlands limits academic residency to no more than 25 percent of the degree requirements for all undergraduate programs. Academic residency can be completed at any time while active-duty service members are enrolled. Reservists and National Guardsmen on active duty are covered in the same manner.
