What is a theatre business degree?

The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Business degree explores the world of performance and stagecraft. In the program, you will dive into everything from acting and directing to set design and technical production, to theatre arts theory and practice, entrepreneurial skills, and standard business.

The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Business is a comprehensive program combining both theater arts and business administration curriculum. A minimum of 48 credits is required for completion of the major. Courses explore theatre arts theory and practice, entrepreneurial skills, and standard business practices to prepare students for careers in stage management and entertainment leadership.

Theatre Arts Capstone Requirement:

THA 425 Senior Seminar (offered in spring semester) is the course through which Theatre Arts and Theatre Business majors realize their Capstone Projects as part of a Spring Play Festival. Theatre Arts and Theatre Business seniors will propose a project in their area of interest in the fall of their senior year. Proposals must be approved by faculty. Areas of focus may include - Acting, Design, Directing, Dramaturgy, Marketing, Playwriting, or Stage Management.  All capstone projects must include a writing component that demonstrates critical capacity and a formal presentation appropriate to the student’s target audience.

Complete at least 1 of the following history-related courses:

  • ENGL213 - Drama
    ENGL221 - Shakespeare to 1600
    ENGL222 - Shakespeare After 1600

Complete ALL of the following business courses:

  • ECON101 - Principles of Economics
  • BUS136 - Principles of Global Marketing
  • ACCT210 - Principles of Financial Accounting & Reporting
  • BUS310 - Principles of Management and Organizational Behavior
  • OR BUS430 - Human Resource Management
  • BUS304 - Nonprofit Management
  • OR BUS369 - Special Topics in Business

Special Topics course must be approved by the Department.
