About Brian Dick

Brian Dick is a graduate student in the University of Redland's Clinical Mental Health Counseling master's program. He believes that clients are the best experts on their own lives and seeks out approaches that best match the needs, values, and preferences of the client. Prior to switching careers to become a therapist he was trained as a sociologist. He holds a master's degree and Ph.D. in sociology, both from the University of California, Davis. He researched and wrote about the history of the life sciences for a nonprofit organization, including working as a guest researcher at the National Institutes of Health's National Human Genome Research Institute. He then taught undergraduate courses for four years at the University of Redlands for the Sociology and Anthropology department and the Health, Medicine, and Society program. His experience teaching students on this campus, especially first year seminars, exposed him to the many mental health struggles that college students face and motivated his decision to switch careers.
