- 1991 National Debate Coach of the Year and coach of the winning team at the 45th "National Debate Tournament" defeating the University of Michigan in the final round.
- One of five College Debate Coaches selected by the Associated Press to judge the revived Presidential Debates in 1976 (Ford vs. Carter). Repeated that honor in 1980; 1984; 1988 1992; 1996 and 2000.
- Selected by the Presidents Commission on Presidential Debates as a Study Group for "Debate Watch," in 1996, with my First Year Seminar class, Debating for the Presidency.
- Recipient of the George Ziegelmueller Award, 2005---59th National Debate Tournament, for Coaching and Teaching Excellence in Communication Studies.
- Recipient of the Lucy Keele Award at the 2008---62nd National Debate Tournament, for Outstanding Service to the Debate Community.
