Closing Reception:
Thursday, April 20 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
The Art Department of the University of Redlands is pleased to present Lucent, an exhibition of artworks by 13 graduating Studio Art majors. The show opens to the public on Tuesday, March 28 and runs until Friday, April 21 at the University Art Gallery. Everyone is welcome to attend the closing reception on Thursday, April 20 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m
Lucent (adj.) is defined as ‘glowing with or giving off light; luminous.’ Lucent was chosen for the exhibition title as a way for the students to honor themselves, the works they have created, and their uniqueness. “To be lucent is to be radiant, prolific, rooted: weaving pieces of yourself in with the work you create. You stretch steadily outwards, and your unique essence glows throughout what you’ve made. Lucence is exhilarating, the soft extra inch a dancer gains from an allongé, the show spread of dust motes through a sunbeam. Lucence is your light, and everyone’s shimmers in a different hue.”
This exhibition is the culmination of our Senior art majors’ “Capstone” experience, which involves creating a body of work in the student’s chosen concentration area (drawing/painting, graphic design, photography, ceramics/sculpture.)
The exhibition features artwork by Prairie Augustine, Celia Burch, Athena C., Koko Furlong, Jennifer Hitchcock, Casey Holt, Luis Mendez Gonzalez, Emma Nay, Kim Oller, Francisco ‘Cisco’ Rivas, Blanca X Robles Altamirano, Shavase Shine, and Elisabeth Walther.
