Jasper's mission is to provide academic assistance to local K-12 students by utilizing University of Redlands undergraduates as tutors. Through this program, tutors aim to help youth develop the skills necessary to become independent, successful learners in our community. Jasper's Corner has been providing homework help to the Redlands and surrounding communities since the program was established in 2003.

The University is pleased to offer homework assistance free of charge. The program is offered Monday through Thursday and provides assistance in almost all subjects for kindergarten through 12th grade. During the fall semester, Jasper's Corner is open mid-September through mid-December. In the spring semester, the program is open mid-January through early April. Jasper's Corner follows the University of Redlands academic calendar and also considers Redlands Unified School District calendars.

Please submit an intake form and a member of our team will be in touch once we have an opening in our program.

Tutor Onboarding Process

In order to become a Jasper's Corner tutor, University of Redlands students must complete an application and interview that takes place during the first month of each semester. View the steps below to learn more information about this process. Please be advised that some sites may require tutors to submit a Live Scan as an additional part of onboarding.

Those interested in becoming a Jasper's Corner tutor will complete an application at the beginning of the semester in which they would like to participate in the program. After the application is submitted, the Children's Programs Graduate Assistant will contact the applicant to schedule a Zoom group interview.

The Graduate Assistant will conduct a 30 minute Zoom group interview to determine if the applicant will be an effective tutor for the children in the program. The Graduate Assistant will contact the applicant within one week of the interview regarding the status of their application.

In order to verify that the college tutors have clear credentials to serve with the Jasper's Corner program, the names of each applicant are run through the Student Affairs Office for a university/disciplinary check as well as a background check with Sterling Volunteers. After an applicant is formally offered the tutor position and placed in a designated tutoring location, they must complete and submit their background check and mandated reporter training to the Director of Children's Programs within five days of receiving them.

After the background check and mandated reporter training are submitted, the tutor must attend additional tutor training facilitated by the Student Directors. The training will educate tutors on their role and responsibilities as well as the daily activities of the program.

Once a tutor completes their training with the Student Directors, they can officially participate in the Jasper's Corner program.
