Greek Governance and Community Development

Greek Council is the joint governing body of the social greek organizations. Inter-Fraternity Council is the governing body of the social fraternities and Panhellenic Council is the governing body of the social sororities.

The objective of Greek Council shall be to promote the best interests of sororities, fraternities, and of the University in establishing close cooperation between groups in matters of general interest and in matters of Greek activities. Additionally, Greek Council seeks to promote the five pillars of Greek Life amongst its members.

All Groups shall express and practice mutual respect for each other, Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council and the University community at all times.

Being a part of the Greek Community has helped me become the person I am today. If I had not become a member of Beta Lambda, I would not have realized the potential that I held within and where I can go. I have held many leadership positions due to this. I plan concerts for the school and the Greek organizations are always there supporting the events or helping out. As for my sorority sisters, they are my best friends. They are my lifelong friends, the bridesmaids for my wedding, the shoulders I can cry on, and the women I just meet up with for a good laugh.

Stephanie Teare, '05 Beta Lambda

Greek Leadership

Greek Council has elected positions that serve the Greek Community in various ways. The six elected Chairpersons are elected from every sorority and fraternity member to lead the community's focus for a semester. Below are the responsibilities of the Chairpersons and the committees they oversee. Each Chairperson has a committee representing one member from every organization.

The elements below represent the focus of the Greek Community at Redlands.

Academic Excellence

Focused on the development and support of the greek scholar.  An Academic committee is dedicated to promoting academic achievement within the Greek community. The Greek Council Academic Chairs track New Member Study Hours, Host All Greek Study Hours Monday Nights from 7-9 pm, and Oversee Gamma Sigma Alpha. The Academic Chair Greek Council Committee is dedicated to promoting academic achievement within the Greek community.

Greek students focus on academic achievement and excellence as a community. New members are required to complete 20 hours of study per week during the new members process and must have a minimum 2.5 GPA before they can join a Greek organization.

As an organization, Greeks are held accountable to the Greek Academics Policy where a group faces a loss of privileges if they fall below a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

As an individual, every member in the Greek community must have a 2.5 GPA or they run the risk of losing privileges.

Feel free to ask for a copy of the Individual or Group Greek Academic Policy.
