About Dr. Mendoza

Understanding students and racial inequities in campus climates are central to my work as a higher education scholar-practitioner. Through my teaching and advising, I work with students to re-think and re-imagine transformative and equity-centered educational practices. My approaches to my teaching, research and service are deeply shaped by my experiences growing up in the city of La Puente, California, as a first-generation Chicana, and daughter of immigrants from Mexico. It is my hope that the students I work with see themselves as critical educational leaders, change agents, and believe in the strengths and knowledge they bring to the classroom.
