Course Description
Politics of Eastern Europe takes advantage of its Salzburg location to immerse students in the politics, history and political culture of East Central Europe. The course takes a historical look at the experiences of East Central Europeans from the Hapsburg, Ottoman, Russian and German Empires to the present day, and then focuses on contemporary politics, society and economics, including the refugee crisis, the changing role of the European Union, the Ukraine conflict, and the future of both the European Union (EU) and NATO. Included will be a look a close look at Austrian and German responses to current European issues.
