Suzuki Program - University of Redlands

Suzuki Piano, Violin and Cello

Community School of Music and the Arts Administration:

Dr. Joseph Modica, School of Music & CSMA Director
Rae K. Shen, Suzuki Program Coordinator

Pre-requisite: Instrument for daily practice (Acoustic Piano/Violin/Cello). CD player device for daily listening to recordings.

All courses are held at Hentschke Hall on the University of Redlands main campus.

The Suzuki method, developed by Shinichi Suzuki, involves teaching the very young child. The approach is based on the assumption that all children can learn music in much the same way that they learn their native language. Through listening and imitation along with a positive nurturing environment created by parents and family, the ability of the child develops. Therefore, the success of this program depends on the parents or main caregivers.

The method requires parental participation at every lesson and in daily home practice as well. In general, a major commitment of parental time is required.

The Community School of Music and the Arts (CSMA) at the University of Redlands offers a comprehensive Suzuki program. Lessons and classes are scheduled by arrangement with the assigned instructor. All courses are held at the Orange Tree Lane CSMA facility at 1746 Orange Tree Lane, Redlands, 92374.
